This means that we start the day early with tea or coffee and cereals at sunrise. This is followed by an early morning activity, aiming to be back in camp by approximately 10h00 for a brunch and siesta until 15h30 when we set off for another activity.
These guideline-times shift with the season and are also influenced by sightings and experiences. We are flexible working with the wishes of our guests, whether walking, game driving, canoeing, fishing, bird watching or just relaxing in camp.
Game drives
Although Mana Pools lends itself to walking – game drives are also a very popular activity – be it in conjunction with walking or on its own. The advantage of game drives is that we can cover larger distances and see various parts of the park while looking for the great diversity of animals found in Mana Pools.
Camp Mana has set the bar for game-viewing vehicles in Mana Pools with our brand-new Toyota Land Cruiser – offering every guest an outside seat. This luxurious game drive vehicle is fitted with state of the art technology to ensure that your G&T’s are frosty and that every passenger has a personal charging station for their electronic equipment while we drive!
Walking
A walking safari is a rare privilege that helps to crystalize your status on this beautiful, fragile planet. Mana Pools is considered one of the best walking safari destinations in Africa. Not only does walking allow you thrilling encounters on foot with wildlife but it encourages a more visceral experience, a deeper engagement with your surroundings, a literal and emotional connection with the environment and greater understanding of the ecology.
Canoeing
Canoeing the Zambezi River must be one of the most beautiful wilderness experiences possible. Sunpath Safaris offers both half day and full day Canoeing trips out of Camp Mana as well as multi-day Mana Pools shoreline canoeing trails. Ride the pulse of the Zambezi and experience the tranquility of game-viewing from the river with our highly experienced professional guides.
Photographic safaris
The combination of Mana Pools’ unique blue light, The Zambezi River, the backdrop of the Zambezi escarpment and the enormous diversity and numbers of wildlife have made this a destination to be on the bucket-list of every serious wildlife photographer.
Camp Mana’s position, immersed in an Albida Forest set back 60m from the river and right on the edge of the floodplain makes for great in-camp photography between drives and walks.
Fishing
The Zambezi River is home to a remarkable 134 fish species. Many of these are suitable for sport fishing. Our guides will help you to locate the perfect spot to kick-back and cast your line into the hypnotic currents. Please bring your own fishing gear.
In accordance with our commitment to environmental sensitivity we only practice “catch and release”.
Chitake springs
Chitake Springs is situated in the southern section of Mana Pools National Park below the escarpment. This is wilderness at its rawest. There is none of the subtlety & blissful beauty associated with being on the banks of the Zambezi River, however there is a different primal magic here.
Chitake Springs is not for the feint-hearted and it is exclusively a walking area. We recommend a minimum of 3 nights for an excursion to Chitake. Accommodation is in dome tents & a fly-camp which we erect for the duration of your stay.
